HD or even better. Definitely, if you can go for it.
Let's face it, after the novelty value, more than 99.9% of it you'll ditch (or save and never use). When you need a frame or three you'll want to see as much and as clearly as possible.

Its a mix of 1080p and 1080i, mostly 1080i now, they have to balance the bandwidth used at the mux, what you tend to find is that they switch between 1080i/p during a program depending on the content which is clever.

Anyway if the camera does 1080p then you can use that but for the most part 720p is more than enoughh, ide say that progressive is always best as each frame is separate and there is no interlace issues when you come to need a single still frame.h

GOPRO setting 1080 25/24p PAL is fine, only adjust the FPS is you want to do slow mo.

TV is mainly recorded in either 1080i 25fps at 50MPS or somewhere between 1080 25p up to 4k depending on what codex is needed. Record at a higher rate then you can drop down, youtube is is compressed and most people don't watch full screen so the above is fine. We used that setting for a show that is going out on MTV right now, so if it works for that it will work for whatever your doing.
