Literally about 30 minutes ago i just ordered a replacement half kit for my also snapped crash bung...

I had my off at about 30-35mph bike slid quite some distance, the bung shaved a bit but not much it also snapped off pretty much straight away.

When emailing their support hoping to get a replacement as there site specifically states ''designed to bend and not snap'' I was told if the bung is in warranty they will replace. If not a replacement half kit if £32+£5 delivery.

They also told me that when they snap it is usually due to over tightening and all their bungs should be tightened to the correct values. Perhaps the case for most people that have them snap? Perhaps not? I don't see how a company could get so popular if there products really are that bad!

Talk to FG1 - pretty sure exactly the same thing happened to him and it was put down to a warranty issue and he got a load of R&G kit free from them as a result.

Free stuff! I feel I should have pushed them a bit more even though mine where purchased by previous bike owner about 3 years ago.

I just wanted a replacement bung/bolt for the failed product nothing more than that.

I wouldn't potentially be paying out £300+ on repairs if the bung hadn't snapped. Stuff would still have damaged but maybe only £200 worth of damage instead xd

I felt a little but mugged forking out again for something that MIGHT help next time.

I've also got Motosliders but their range of bikes is limited. They are good and I've bunged it down the road a few times up to about 50mph. They'll be a nightmare to get off some day as the bolts are starting to bend but they're proof that the good ones do work.

Default crash bungs are rubbish!

Generally speaking there are too many variables in the anatomy of a crash to be able to say definitively if a bung has performed well or not.
Some early crash bungs were very strong indeed, staying resolutely in place whatever loads were placed upon them, sounds great - exactly what you want, right?
Wrong - those won't let go and pass all those loads into the frame and bend it, sometimes even snapping the mounts off of the engine.
Be careful what you wish for - you might just get it.

PS. Crash bungs, with some notable exceptions, are mostly crap.

I'm no engineer, but the R&G crash bungs for the SV look flawed by design to me. The fact that they bolt on to a bracket surely makes them weaker. On my Ducati Monster the bungs screwed directly into the end of a replacement engine mount bar and not on to a bracket. Never tested them though...

no. spreading the point of impact reduces the stress. a single focused source can cause more damage then if it were spread out, this is why you have crumple zones in cars.
