i never read the post properly.
if the bike is turning over on the starter/motor then its not the safety switches as they would cut power to the starter. there is an easy way to tell if the safety switches are working correctly. sit on the bike upright and put it in gear with the sidestand down do not pull the clutch in and apply the front brake then press the starter. if the bike tries to start then its one of the safety switches. still sitting on the bike in gear put the sidestand up with the clutch out and try again. if the bike tries to start then its the clutch switch. do the same but opposite with the sidestand e.g. pull the clutch in but sidestand down. in all circumstances the bike should not start with it in gear with the sidestand down or clutch out. if the bike only fires up and runs fine when the bike upright then i would be looking for a loose connector/plug cap or chaff/split in the loom. does it still run if you turn the bars lock to lock? it very rare that both carbs will get sticky floats so will usually start but fire on one. |

does the bike turn over every press of the starter or does it sometimes not and just does nothing?

No. I've tried it with and without the choke and it doesn't make any difference as far as I can tell although I'll check again when I get home. I checked for a loose battery connection because it was one of the only things I felt confident getting to.

Much easier to undo the screws that hold the throttle on the bars. If you have a standard curvy, be aware there are plastic locating pegs that go into a blind hole in the cast handlebars. Don't break 'em off!

What am I checking for in that switch block thing though? Tried it again today. Now I have to pull the clutch lever up as well as in or I get nothing at all. When I get the clutch lever in the right place the situation is still the same.
