Get yourself down to Soho on a Friday night, every one there can tell you what you need to know.

Sid & Rictus are in hous mechanics, Jonboy is the luggage expert, and I specialise in drinking coffee from Nero's, Latte please, no sugar

Default Been There, Done That...

Hi
I was the same a month or so ago, new SV (new licence too), needed to carry some luggage. I posted a similar query. The folks on this forum are great, loads of advice was forthcoming. But in the end, you've got to decide what works for you.
As topboxes go, the Suzuki one is about the best looking, but you lose the pillion seat, you can't swing your leg over it (well I certainly wouldn't be able to ) and IMHO it still spoils the lines of the SV. The after-market ones are worse, they make the bike look sooo long, kinda makes a tail-tidy redundant.
I ended up with an Oxford humpback tankbag. It's a bit awkward at first, but you soon forget it's even there. Of course, you won't get down flat on the tank any more, but that's not an issue unless you're doing long, flat-out runs.
As for the exhaust - I'm planning to get one after a few more miles. I rode out last Sunday with Guy H, he's got a twin high-level system - it sounds (to me) a bit odd at idle, but as soon as he opened it up a bit, it made my standard bike sound like a choirboy whose voice is just breaking!
Enjoy the SV, be safe
Mark.

Thanks all for the replies - I've been reading this forum a while after having passed my DAS and choosing my trusty steed, and your advice has been spot on so far. The hamicad looks a cert, and is being ordered right now. My next dilmma is choosing what size plate, what font, and what cheesy website to have as the strapline!!
Can-wise, I'll look into a suzi dealer fit and see what they say - guess a removable baffle one is the way forward but with 2 years left on the warranty I don't want it invalidated if I can help it. Although if it make the bike sound like a Ducati that would make my mind up and say to hell with warranties!
Can't remember who asked, but I wasn't in J&S in Watford - the place I've been spending my readies in recently was Hein Gericke in Stockwell, and a better service I have yet to find - the time and enthusiasm they have is hard to fault.
Are you guys still meeting in Soho now the winter months have set in? Will try and get down one friday...If not, I have exams in early Dec, but one sunday or other I would love a ride if the weather is half way decent to take my mind off revision. Housemate has parked his honda hornet away for the winter so now have no likeminded friend, if anyone doesn't mind riding with a relative newbie??

I to am pretty much a newbie (passed in Aug), London based and would be interested in a newbie-type (and more or less license-preserving) ride. Last Sunday got antsy and thought I'd pop out for a short blast. What a joke. I got caught in extremely heavy traffic on the North Circ - not even enough room to filter. Half an hour later, I managed to turn off and blast back for a few mins and that was that! Sigh.

Totally agree re H-G in Brixton. They're great guys and most of the products are spot on. Metropolis sucks. I've been there 3 times now and they've been rude and more interested in talking to each other every time.

I'll be at Nero's this Friday but probably won't stay much beyond 8. I have a naked black K4 with a rene carbon oval can.

Cheers,
Paul
