Can't imagine a bloke in a CLK Merc not being insured. A 19 year old in a H-reg Ford Orion yeah - but not this. He's too likely to be pulled over by the cops anyway with that sort of car.
He's just after a bit of cash. If he's a decent chap, he'll accept a reasonable offer (£50? £100? £200?), but if he asks for a lot (£500? £1000?), then it might be worth saying you simply cannot afford that amount and go through the insurance. (If he asks for a lot, it would be more than your insurance would rise by anyway, so it wouldn't be worth paying out a large amount) |

Being in the situation you are I guess the max amount I'd be willing to settle for cash would be whatever my excess is on my policy and how much my no claims is worth to me. Not sure what the excess is on your policy, but mine is £250, so for a broken light cluster and a paint chip I'd prob offer him £200 but go upto £300-400 if he didn't except, as I have 2yrs no claims which I wouldn't want to loose.
Agree with Jonboy, in his position with a claim already in progress he may just be looking for some extra cash so you may be able to offer him less, personally with the cost of my excess I'd offer him the £200 min. Hope this helps. Cheers Desh |

I'd just point out, most people with that kind of car would have had it in for repair under fully com, straight away, and a hire car until done and let their insurance sort it out, not driving it around?
just a thought Cheers Mark.

![]() If you've chipped the paint it's going to be picey, a light cluster on a CLK is around £160-£200, because it's all one unit - the whole lot has to be replaced. Depending on the colour you could be looking at £60-£150 for the chipped paint - he'll have to get the whole panel resprayed. Private number plate? Gangster, ergo no insurance. A sure sign! ![]() |

I wander if he did it on purpose to get money?
It's possible in two ways: 1) He's genuinely going through a claim from 3 days ago and he took advantage of the situation before it's all repaired. He could do it as many times as poss before the repair thus pocketting £hundreds. 2) He's not going through another claim and does it to get money on a semi-regular basis. That's why there's other scratches - from the last victim or two. Who knows? |
