aye get 46 tooth on the back and get some more low end go (it needs a chain with 2 extra links mind you, the old shape svs had 44 tooth and the sv had 45 (don't quote me)...

I got 20,000 out of my first chain, but the front sprocket was in a hell of a shape... I'm getting a scottoiler for my crimbo so that should help with the new(ish) chain...

Probably because the Scottoiler was not adjusted to give out enough oil. I would say the average figure for a chain regularly spray lubed is around 15K and with a chain oiler 30-40k.

I can quote you as you are quite correct .

My (naked) bike has a 46 tooth rear sprocket and this is definitely a performance plus for no extra money (though it could be argued that tyre wear and slightly higher petrol costs are part of the equation). A 110 link chain will have no problem at all with a 46er and I suspect that you'd squeeze one on to a 108 link chain but then there would be almost zero room for adjustment.

Hmmm, looking at a chain & sprocket set for an SV (classic).
This will be a straight fit for my SVS won't it?

PS, something I've never understood, how come people talk about needing to remove the swingarm to fit a continuous chain? Surely it's just a case of removing the back wheel

What am I missing?

Probably. Just make sure the chain length is 108 links if you have the S faired version (as suggested above).

If the chain is indeed continuous you would have to remove the swingarm as the chain goes around the smaller end of the swingarm before it reaches the front sprocket.

However, chains are not usually sold as a loop rather as a length with an extra link and bits to be rivetted. Thus only the rear wheel needs removing.

Hi SVers

I was reading this thread with much interest, particularly having had my chain and sprockets replaced just recently. Haven't yet had scottoiler fitted but was wondering about the loobman that was mentioned by Jonboy and so I did a google search and found their website. Certainly seems a decent alternative.

Any knowledge experiences on these devices that any one would be willing to share please?

Thanks in anticipation

Tony

Ahem, I've now looked at the thing and it's perfectly obvious!
Cheers JonBoy!

I've decided to write a piece on the fitting and using of the Loobman system for the main site (probably for the Feb update) and am currently waiting for him to come back to me with a special SV650 discount if he's interested.

I doubt very much you will get any joy with regards to the warranty and the warped disc. Suzuki Japan are very very strict when it comes to replacing brake discs under warranty. All warranty claims like this have to go through a dealer, onto suzuki gb for authorisation and then onto suzuki japan...

As the SV is not a bike that suffers from this type of problem you will probaly have to have the bike looked at by a suzuki technical guy and submit the standard brake pads and original discs for inspection. They will also look to see if the bike has been crashed.

I know its alot to go though but there are plenty of people that take the mick trying to get parts replaced under warranty when they have been damaged in an accident...hence manufacturers being tight when considering warranty on certain items that are not known to go wrong under normal conditions. It then makes it harder for those that have genuine problems to get any comeback easily.

Time for a nice set of waveys me thinks

Nice one jonboy. I await with interest ...

Thing is, I think I need to buy one NOW!!! Feel the credit card coming out, my chain and sprockets cannot wait ....

Seems easy to fit which is one of its selling points me thinks. No messing with carbs for a start

I'll mull this one over for wee while, until my lube runs out

Thanks

Tony

Well it's hardly expensive anyway so don't fret too much - I paid full price.

Exactly. I think I shall be mounting it from the bungee rail underneath the left rear side pod.
