Hey, thanks guys. Just a bit miffed that I paid good money for a "top brand" and then find out its not duplex (if that's the right term) and I need to train my wife in comms procedures over and out

Hi,

If it's an autocom then it should be duplex! At least mine is and I was sure the other in the range are. The one below mine and the one above are.

It's not duplex if you use bike to bike transeivers like myself and my girlfriend are now using. Which model of autocom is it?

Autocom (Active 7) is now fitted and as was as easy as everyone suggested, I soldered it into the rear brake circuit. It IS duplex, I misunderstood the blurb on how to talk to each other
I can't fault it (after initial fiddling with volume/vox and speaker positions in the helmets) The sound quality is superb, to the point where I will not use my MP3 player, because when I had Led Zepp blasting out in my helmet, I was riding like a lunatic
I bought the unit direct from Autocom and I can't praise their Customer Service enough. I was like an old woman with my enquiries prior to buying and afterwards and they were brilliant everytime. When it turned out that the initial pack had contained the wrong lead for my phone, they sent out the correct one same day with no fuss and no requirement to send the other lead back.

Raf/Big Ape - Should this feedback go in "Ancillarys" ??

You say you bought it from Autocomm? How much did it cost? I am looking for a system like that so that I can "chat" with the missus from my bike to hers and vice verser (might disconnect her mic!) Not wanting to plug into bike electrics just run off batteries I think. Any ideas how long they would last on a tour etc- don't want to have to fill half the panniers with Duracells!

Thanks

I bought the Active "7" which is the bike powered kit which includes the pillion speakers, boom mic, extension leads, phone and music leads. It was down (and maybe still) from £199 to £169. I had to buy a £10 adapter on top to use my hands free mobile. You are looking at up to an additional £330 (dependent on make) for the "bike to bike" transceivers. A lot of dosh, but you get what you pay for and the quality is very, very good

I have fitted my autocom a few weeks ago - tested it on the way to the Wickham Square Boxing Day ride. At 95mph, I could hear my pillion clear as she could hear me when I dropped the bike when we were stationary

A top bit of kit.

PS- you can get the £10 phone adaptor free if you ask nicely

Thanks- pricey but sounds worth it. Some mates I go scratching with have some cheapo ones but they cant hear each other bike to bike above 50 mph! Bit useless really. I shall give Autocom a ring on Monday and look at getting it together.

If I had it permanently wired into the bike, it wont drain the battery too much will it whilst riding? Missus has a Thundercat and she was trying to put me off having permanent connections as she felt it would be detrimental over a period of time.

The system is only "live" when the ignition is on (it is where I've wired it to the feed for the rear light) so no probs on the battery front.
When you ring Autocom, mention you saw good feedback from people on this site, you never know, we could build up a discount for future member purchases
Oh, don't be a male chauvinist like me and assume the girl who answers is "just" a receptionist, she is VERY knowledgeable on the products

I've been told that the SV has a good 100W left over, easily enough to run pretty much anything you're reasonably going to attach to a bike.
There shouldn't be any detrimental effects until you start using more than the power left over after running the engine.

If you buy the Kenwood Funky radios then that price comes down a fair bit. I found a pair of radios, drop in chargers and rechargable batteries for £158. I can have a look for who I bought them from if you want. Mind they do go through the battery at a similar pace to a mobile phone. However, they can take x4 AA if needed. You will also need connecting leads to use them, these are £15 each.

Autocom do a battery powered version but I don't see any reason to use that unless you have a couple of bikes you ride.

Hope that helps.
