I thought the 7 was way too harsh on the road. Awesome front end. They are just too old. I went for a zx6r as that was light, handled better and was faster......the newish 600's leave em for dead

i had a zxr750j2 and can safely say that if the zx7r is half the bike the zxr was, then you will love it! it feels like a proper big bike, has arm ripping acceleration, totally planted suspension and an airbox sound to die for!
put a race can and filter on and it sounds like a racer!!!
i think the zx7 is pretty much the same bike as the later zxr's, just different body work and little tweaks here and there.
only down side was the way it made me go very very fast. i had an indicated 158mph on my private m40!
oh, and as for 600s leaving them behind, my mate has a k1 gsxr600 and he can ride pretty fast, but he struggled to keep up with me on my zxr.
not much go wrong with them either, so do it!

I did have a zxr750 (a zxr K 93 black and purple) as well, not a zx7, but injured my back and then got a zzr600. then back to a zx6 wqhen my back got better. Hard to tell how fast they are with different riders, specially on the road. But having owned both, my J1 is far better in most departments, including acceleration and top speed. Got some Dyno charts somewhere for em both. But the 750 front end hasn't been bettered yet.

Still, they are cracking bikes and would def have another though...so if ya can get one for a couple of grand go for it, (But save some cash for the physio on yer back. )

Evening. Did I hear someone mention my name?

Haven't been on here for months (don't tell anyone, but been..... somewhere else ) but dropped in for a quick read tonight. Seems like good timing.

So, to business. 7R. Buy one.... I absolutely love mine - bought it in the summer in the same situation, my SV being lifted into a van by some nice young men.

It's a lot bigger and heavier than the SV of course, but also got loads more power. There are often comparisons with the old ZXR750 (as here), but from what I've read they bumped the power quite a bit with the 7R. Mine has 110 at the wheel according to the dyno, so still ahead of the current 600s, if only by a bit. Will crack a genuine 170mph though unlike the 600s. Not that I'd condone seeing 180 on the clock on the M4 of course. No chance.........

The noise is sensational (for a 4 pot ) - did a few track days over the summer and the cracking and spitting from the exhaust at 12,000 rpm is just incredible - it sounds awesome, really.

The other thing I was pleasantly surprised about, having gone from a twin, is the low and midrange. It will pull really quite hard from 3-4000 and obviously just start getting more silly as the revs rise. I genuinely pulled a muscle in my shoulder twice over the summer giving it a handful The usual trick is to change to a smaller front sprocket to sacrifice some of the slightly unecessary top speed for more wheel-hoisting acceleration - I just couldn't fathom why anyone would need to for the first few months, but you know how you get used to these things - I'll be doing it next service

In summary, for a bike that cost 3 grand in near-mint condition with 10k miles on it, it's an absolute performance bargain, despite its age. It's clearly aged in technical terms, the current Gixxer 750 has nearly 20 extra horsepower and 30 less kg, but it makes up for it in the looks department. You wouldn't believe how many comments I get at traffic lights, and more surpisingly, at bike shops! I haven't yet made it to a bike shop without the assistant coming out to have a look at it. Not that that kind of thing matters to me of course......

Oh, and green?? Nah mate, don't you know they make the black ones faster?

Right, that'll do - I'll try and pop in a few times to see if you want any more questions answering - as you can see, we've touched upon my favourite subject!

Cheers

Damn..hes found my secret....

The bhp is fairly decent on a 7r, but they loose so much weight against the 600's. The way you feel like you are laid on the tank on them is ace, puts you right in the race mode straight away.

Wouldn't worry - mine's used for commuting through London every day... it only gets treats on the odd weekend or trackday.

Thought it was incredibly uncomfortable at first, but took less than a week to get used to it.

Well I finally did it. I've got me a green 'un!!!
I'll post some pics as soon as I stay off it long enough to take some.
First impressions are OMG!!! It just goes silly when it gets to about 8000RPM.
Need to sort out the rear shock. Last owner fitted an aftermarket shock which seems to have a very soft spring, so looking for a standard one for now to get it sorted.

There is a gorgeous 7r at Taz in Peterborough.... I had to resist the urge to ring em and try to extend my sv finance to encompass buying it...

Its the bike i've most wanted for years
