I managed to hit the base of a traffic cone on Monday night. On the A55 going east, didn't spot it till too late, only just had time to make sure I hit it staight. Bit of a bump that was.

ha ha! thanks for letting me know I'm not the only plonker here!

my bum feels better now! But I have a quick question - driving home, the bike didn't feel as firm riding over smaller bumps in the road, it felt a bit spongey. Is it possible I might have damaged the fork springs? or am i probably just paranoid? (it's probably the latter, i'm always paranoid I've damaged my baby)

i don't have a pic of my bum, but i do have a nice pic of my bike:

thanks for any advice, guys.

Seems pretty unlikely that you've done any damage. Just your imagination I would expect. I keep thinking something has gone wrong, hearing noises and so forth, then ask somebody else and they can't hear anything.

Somehow my post from earlier seems to have disappeared!

I said that I know how you feel with the aches & pains!

Also that you'll have to excuse Ian's comments... I can't believe how uncouth he is! as if I'd ever do such a thing!

I've been kicked up the **** by my bike like that twice, once I came back down with one foot on the rear cowl, funnilly enough I fell off...

The other time was more recently, and was sheer incompetence... I was taking a shortcut across my old uni campus, and was going quite quickly through a quiet section approaching a bend, when what I'd thought was a manhole cover turned out to be a humungous speed cushion... Jammed on the anchors and got the sped down to about 40 before I hit it, but with the brakes and the mighty kick-up-the-****, I was out of the saddle for ages, with the big doing a big crazy endo under me, and a bend about 20 metres away. I have absolutely no idea how that didn't end in tears, but I reckon a big part of it was my improved suspension...

It is, I think, quite possible that your rear shock could have sprung a leak after a big hit like that, but not all that likely... That'd not make it less firm either, it'd make it more, well, springy. Likewise the front, although you should be able to see any oil leakage there.

Assuming your suspension is similiar to the older model's, I don't think tehre's much in it that would be hurt by that sort of abuse, except maybe the oil seals and that'd make you bouncy rather than soft, if you catch the difference. I reckon it'll be fine, mine survived a bigger kick and a sojourn into a ditch with just broken indicators
