At the NEC show I tried on the Schuberth S1 (fixed face) and was quite interested in it, and while there I tried a Concept2 just to see what it was like (as you say the flip front is quite appealing in theory).
Didn't like the feel at all - obviously didn't get to ride in it but not for me thanks. It did seem quite nicely made though. |

i have never had a flip up helmet, so i cannot comment on them, apart from saying they do look practical fot town use.
In terms of safety (never tested..touch wood) and build quality Arai wins every time for me. I have had a few helmets in the 13 years i have been riding, mainly off road helmets. But i have had atleast 5 road helmets these include AGV, Lazer and Arai. The arai wins hands down every time. extremely comfortable and pretty light weight..not the lightest helmet on the market, but still far from the heaviest. The ventilation if first class therefore no steaming up. and the DD chin strap has a sort of spongey cushion to stop rubbing on your neck Arai helmets are pretty expensive, but you only get one head!!! I dont think arai do flip-ups, so unless you dont realy want a flip up, arai is out of the question |

All flippy helmets (except one) are manufactured as open face helmets that close. The Shoei Syncrotec 2 is the only helmet designed as a full-face helmet that opens

i also use the caberg justissmo, and a roof boxer .
the caberg is reasonable for the price and is quite well ventilated, and has a snazzy sun visor built in the roof is very light but poorly ventilated and not suitable for longer journeys due to the noise...

I really like the look of the Justissimo, I just can't get over the fact that my lips are touching the chin guard when I put it on and if I go up a size it's a bit too big.

i did say "reasonable" and "quite well ventilated" i know its not the best helmet, wish i could afford an arai....maybe i should have waited a bit longer before buying the roof....oh-well.

Hubby and I both have Caberg Justissmos and thought they were great till he bought himself a Schuberth Concept 1 just before Christmas. Its really brought home all the deficiencies in the Caberg. The Schuberth is much quieter, a much better fit, much lighter, the visibility is much, much better.
I guess I'll be getting one soon, if they come in my size (XS) |
