Indeed, something inadvertantly slipped out there, I think.

thanks guys. been riding for quite some time. had a catalogue of disasters recently. bike vandalised, T boned on a roundabout (hit & Run) bike knocked over in local car park. all in the last three months. but hey i'm still alive and my bikes almost totally repaired. need new bar ends and a bloomin good clean!!

Welcome to the forum, as Baldyman points out, there is lots of info on the forum on how to keep you plugs dry - it's a common problem on SV's, a fender extender is the usual fix.
