Its nothing to do with competancy. By law we have to hold a copy of the fitting cert and so does the owner of the vehicle. A copy also has to be sent to the supplier of the retriction kit.
The police and your insurers will require a copy of this cert.

Simple as.

Now unless you know dont bother, the guy wants advice so dont give it based on assumptions..

The cert has to be a TUV one..ie the kit that is fitted must be approved.

Not a home made one!

Listen, i am giving advice on what i know which despite my age is a lot, it may obviousy not been as much as you do working in a bike shop, but its still advice from when i was having my bike done, ok, so no more of this "dont bother" crap ok, i wont stand for it as my advice is just as valid as yours, if you have a problem with it, pm me, dont make out like i know jack sh*t!

IF and i mean IF you buy an official kit, yes by law it must have the 3 copys and be fitted by a mechanic, IF however you are going by the letter of the law, it must be restricted to 33bhp, end off! so surley no matter how u get it done u are within the law.

If you have any other problems with what i am saying, either take it up with me on pm or leave it out. thanks
Alex

wow calm down man take a chill pill. Just the fact is this guy wants advice and sorry but what your saying about the kit is wrong. Call the DVLA is you want clarification..oh hang on .. clarification from the dvla!!

I have worked in the industry for many years and if i wasnt sure then i wouldnt say so. There is an element of responsibility when giving advice and thats what makes me cross. This guy wants to be legal and to be legal he needs to have a proper approved kit fitted and the proper cert.

If you are a lil skint like me, i would put the restrictor in and get it dynoed or get sum 1 to prove there in if ever the worst should happen, after all. all the law says is your bike must be restricted to 33bhp!! and thats what u would have done!
is not correct in the way that a dyno sheet wont be enough to be able to get insurance to be legal.

now wheres the smilie with the shades!

Ok, iv calmed down, but seriously, i have searched and searched and searched for the legal crap about all this,

If you read back i did also say, that it is well worth having a dealer do it for peace of mind if you can afford it!! as it will save the hastle and the worry.

all i came up with was another forum, with another with my point of veiw!

http://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=400499

All i have managed to find, is that it sates the bike must be restricted, no where does it say, u must buy an new kit, or does it say you need xyz bit of paper, proof yes,
so if a dyno isnt acceptable as proof that the bike is 33bhp, a: y is a certifiate proof, as we all know is perfectly easy to remove restrictors once in and wave the certificate about,
Yet were given manufactures bhp figures from dynos and accpet them, or know there going to be a lil "sexed up"

I payed out twice for restrictor kits, totalling over 200 quid, i dont want to see anyone else pay oer the odds because the topic is wrapped up in buracratical boliks and no one has stripped it down to the bare bones,
and as i keep saying, all I can find is it says ur bike has to be restricted to 33bhp, does it not,

I will be more than happy to re change my advice to other ppl, if we can find evidence to the countrary!!!

Dvla.....ur aving a laff.....ne one got 3 hours to spend on hold?
