Yup... if they hit an edge or kerb, you don't want them to stay on and stop the bike dead after all. Better a ripped bung than a bent frame.

True, although the bung isn't ground down at all, unlike various other bits.

It is, indeed, my dominant hand. Not looking forward to wiping my ass!

Sorry, Ive gone too far again, it's the drugs, really!

Oh sh*t. That must hurt real bad. Mend up soon - at least you should be back in time for the summer. Everyone on here would be very happy to help but I can't think of anyone who'd wipe your **** for you

Bad luck mate - as a recent member of the "OFFS CLUB" I sympathise and hope you get better soon.

Did you get the momentary thought as you went down: " this is going to hurt".

I recall thinking it and a flash of how often I had read it on this forum.

Girlfriend's oddly reluctant too!

Cheers bluebell.

Shooter, I didn't get that thought then but as I headed for the kerb I had enough time to wonder how to minimise damage, unfortunately not enough to actually do anything about it.

Sorry to hear of your off, BaggaZee. Hope the pain goes away.

All of us had those scares with manhole covers, it is just a matter
of how lucky or unlucky you are in a particular incident. Once I
almost had an off turning into my development. The speed was low but
I was stupid enough to open up the throttle a bit while going over a
manhole. The only thought I had struggling to stabilize the bike was
how stupid I would look when all the neighbours come running out to
the scene.

Get well soon. And think positive: at least your bike isn't
seriously damaged.

Easier said than done!

One road I use regularly (Going off the roundabout at Arnos Grove onto Oakleigh Road South) There are so many bits of iron in the road that it is next to impossible to find any line through without going over some of them.

It surely is not beyond the wit of someone responsible to site these things so that they are not a danger, especially on corners.

I suppose that would presuppose that there was someone in the council or whatever who cares!

Found half of the rear brake lever in my pocket when I checked my leathers so I know I need one of those! Leathers did well, a few nicks & scrapes and judging by the bruising on my right hip the big pad on the leathers saved me from worse.
Very relieved that the new can is fine, the link pipe's worn a bit but the can's good's new.
Rear RHS footpeg and hanger are a good bit shorter than they used to be, as is the bar end and the ball on the end of the brake lever. The sparks must been class! :P
Other than that, the RHS fairing's in 2 bits & the indicator disintegrated.
All-in-all it could have been much worse, the biggest expense will be a new helmet.

There was me feeling smug about riding all year & knowing my limits etc. etc.

Take it easy out there!

Sorry to hear about this. Hope you mend well.

I really dont understand the location of all these manholes etc being mainly in the middle of the lane or congregating like teenagers at some points of certain roads.
There is a road near me that has a long double apexed hairpin in it that would be a dream to ride thru if it wasnt for the number of manhole covers of all shpes and sixes littering the road. Its alos prone to a little flooding from time to time, nothing that would put you off rididng thru but the 2 inches of standing water on top of the steelworks all along there are an acciedent waiting to happen.

Like Sholay says tho... that would presume that someoene in the local council gives a ****. The way they waste our money i'm sure they dont.

Maybe all these stories in the papers about pikeys nicking them to melt them down n sell em are all lies.
Maybe its all the bikers who have had an off over the smooth ones that are going round and nicking them... as a way to force the councils to replace them with new ones with some grip at least.???
Who knows eh?
