The setup is a bit rich from the factory, I think, though. So it's possible for it to stay a bit rich after a new filter and can, I suppose.
Exactly right...

This is a regular thing for me, although I do fill it up on the side stand. All my riding at the moment is commuting to and from Cental London so I don't expect much either, but it works out at about 40 mpg for me so it's not too bad.

Thing is though, unless something's gone wrong there's no way that fitting an air filter and end can should ever cause you to run more rich than stock... I'm assuming this is a new situation? And that nothing else has changed? If it is, and you really are running rich, then either your bike doesn't like one of the two components, one of them's faulty or damaged, or something unrelated's gone wrong.

I've had a situation where my (very) lean running bike was actually smelling strongly of petrol... the mix was too lean to burn clean and so unburnt petrol was being spat out, even though logically you'd expect that the petrol smell would come from running rich. That also caused the bike to be well down on power, which of course meant that I was using more throttle to get the same results, and therefore going through a tank faster. That one messed with my head...

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that this is happening with you as well, since all the changes you've made are changes that would tend to send the bike lean.

Put it this way, any of the remap procedures will tell them whether it's rich or lean... I'd just let them work it out If there's another fault or problem then any mechanic should pick it up anyway. it's hard enough working out fuelling problems with carbs, with FI it must make your head catch fire...
