I had the same problem after having a friendly word with the local constable who showed concern over the lack of illumination on my plate, so after looking at them lights on ebay i took a trip to Maplins and bought some LEDs, bezels and resistors for about £5.00 and mounted them into the back light. Picture below. Sorry about the quality it was taken with the mobile. It doesn't look bright in this picture but it does illuminate all the plate. Took about 1 hour to fit.

Very neat Bonart. I didn't think of that when I used the same type of LED's. I used an Rsend bracket & had them pointing in from the side.........think I may pinch your idea!
No visible white light from the rear......??

You want to do what I did and have a small rectangle section cut out of my red light and then put a clear bit in. This creates a white light downwards, it was enough to pass the mot. Well as long as you have a red lense and clear bulb's.

Pinch away my friend. If you get the recessed bezels then you do not get any light showing from behind as the LED's don't stand proud although you need to be careful when drilling for the bezels and make sure when fitted that they point back towards the bike.

I used a very similar setup to this when i fitted an undertray to my 99 SV and subsequently lost the plate light.
I had one 3mm ultra bright white LED with a very wide angle of light (also from maplins). I intended to use a bezel too but ended up just drilling a 3mm hole for the LED without any light shining back. This setup worked as well if not better than the standard light. However i have since changed to a clear rear lense and havent bothered to swop the LED yet and the plate is well lit up by the rear light alone. Ill wait and see what happens come MOT time.
