Just seen this... Imagining Ken will gloss over the fact that £1000's will need to be spent on new equipment as the current cameras all face FORWARDS!!!!!!

This is another wonderful "lets not fix the problem, lets just fix the symptom" tactic from the government and MPs. Also in the article in "metro" this moring "other options: Allow bikes to use bus lanes" Gee well that would stop them filtering eratically, cost nowt and make thge roads safer... but would not generate cash and would require common sense rather than manic zeal, so doubt we'll see it

Imposing a congestion charge would put my monthly travel to work to 220 squids, and that's before i factor in costs relating to the obscene mileage my bike is going to be doing.

Imposing this Charge would wipe out the reason i bought the bike in the first place - because i didn't want to be paying 240 quid on a disgusting train service complete with 40 year old carriages.

Or I suppose i could get a job locally and take a 10K pay cut

If this were to be ratified (doubtful - exposes ken for the money grabbing rat he is), I will need yet another way of getting to work without being crucified for it - hot air balloon? Hovercraft?

NOT impressed by this idea!

Will have to put my feelers out re the likelihood of this actually happening over the next few weeks, but you can't dismiss anything Ken says because a lot of the stuff he usually ends up pushing through.

I know quite a few people here don't consider that this is the answer, the road safety team included, and seeing as safety is supposedly a reason behind introducing the charge this should hold some weight.

Grr, it gets me all wound up - so are they going to ban horseriding next because that's a dangerous sport and a form of tarnsport? how about rock climbing and most other sports, come to think of it!

nanny state R Us...

This story surfaces every few months and has done so since before the charge was introduced. I think that if they tried this they'd be faced with

a) A massive protest

b) A lawsuit claiming that bikes don't cause congestion and therefore shouldn't be subject to something claiming to be a 'congestion charge'

Then they'll just change the name to 'Safety Charge' - rather like Saftey Camera....

This sort of charge is virtually inevitable. Congestion charging is not so much about reducing congestion rather about raising revenue that would not have otherwise been raised.

If there's an opportunity to stiff bike and scooter riders for revenue to the tune of £750,000 a week then you've liitle option other than to bend over and hope it doesn't hurt too much!

Seems like more Evening Standard tabloid reporting, scare mongering and stirring. God knows why I buy a copy nearly every day!

Stop bleating, at least you have the option of public transport.

My 40 miles to work by public transport to be at work for 7:30 start means I have to leave home the night before and spend 6 hours on a railway station in manchester.

I have no option but to use a car/bike.
