Got on my push bike yesterday for the first time in a year, kept cursing after looking at the handle bars over and over...

Also, kept riding in the middle of the lane!

No mirrors = makes bike narrower = better for filtering

I do use them, too much and sometimes do not turn my head.

I dont have a problem with things comming from behind and catching me out, this post was just an observation that i noticed of when i did not have them. As they would not fit when i did not have any fairing.

I do beleave that i am not the only one that relys on them to much and sometimes do not turn their head.

Can you use the mirrors too much? I wouldn't have thought so personally. Also, if you are aware of the fact that you don't do enough lifesavers, why not get into the habit of doing more of them?

Yes you can use mirrors too much.Ive got a bad habit of looking in the mirror while entering a bend which Ive been trying to get out of for years.I know full well that I need to look where Im going at that point, but I still sometimes catch myself sneaking a look in the mirror. It screws up your line.

Sometimes looking in the mirror can give you a false sense of security. I've been caught out on that a few times. Ie, looking in the mirror a lot, do a head check out of discipline, holy **** there's someone right next to me! However, I didn't use the mirrors enough when I first started riding, and did far too many head checks. There's definetly a balance to be struck I would say.

You are correct on mirror use, but you become lax and totaly relyant on them (like car drivers). I do give myself a kick everytime i notice that i forget lifesavers, which are not often. Not to say i turn without looking at all.

Isn't this why you are supposed to use both mirrors and lifesavers? I definitely use both when in a car and on a bike. There are blind spots not covered by the mirrors which is why you are supposed to do a lifesaver, and similiarly, you can see much further behind you using the mirrors. And thats my 2p worth.

Don't paint all car drivers as the same, its like saying all bikers are the same. You were the person who was considering removing your mirrors to force yourself to do more lifesavers, lets not forget.
