Agree that there is definitely a problem with big carbon cans on the litre bikes and, in most situations, the SV shouldn't have a problem.

Do be aware though that once the packing inside the can starts breaking down the carbon can is more likely to disintegrate than most other materials.

A similar problem exists with Titanium cans although to a much lesser degree. The MiniTwins riders have found that Titanium cans tend to overheat when some of the packing has been blown out the back which causes the material to weaken and eventually crack.

carbon will break down, but it will take ages on an sv, my G-Force can finally split last year after at least 3 years of use, but i had never repacked it, and im not sure if the guy who had it before me packed it either, even if it does go you can get the can resleeved in carbon and repacked for about 70 quid

All rather depends on the sort of riding you do!

Obviously pootling round town is going to subject it to a very different set of forces to being on full throttle for most of it's life.

just so happened my mate who has the aprilia 1000, and had many bikes like the r1, and has louds of experiance with bikes said that this problem with the carbon cans are mainly on the sv1000 as the engine has a lot more power and carbon cans are not suitable as they do deteriorate, hope that helps, but he seems to think its ok on the 650 as theres not as much power (obviously)

What sort, out of curiousity? Not many twin full systems out there for the SV...
