Thanks for the replies. Was just something that went through my head. Not many things do so i thought i better write it down.

I will get a Staintune can, just for the sound really, and i've already stuck a BMC airfilter in it. 18'000k service and will be cheaper in the long run. So i might as well have someone who knows how to fiddle with the carbs eventually. If that gives it extra ponies that's nice, i probably won't notice it with how i ride though.

A huge improvement has come from the Metzeler Sportecs i now have on it. Bumpy, slow corners that used to cause much sphincter puckering i can now go through faster and without any dramas at all. They stick SO much better and they actually give me a bit of feel. The increased bump absorbtion by the tyres is actually that good that i'll be adding a bit more preload front and rear. Amazing. I'm riding a little bit quicker with a lot less effort now.

Roadtec's a much better choice unless you're going to do a lot of trackdays... Sportec takes longer to heat up, and doesn't really offer much more in the real world, not to mention being less good in the rain or winter and about a third as durable... IMO!

I paid 450.-AUSD for the set (however many squids that is), no charge for fitting them.

I had Sportecs on the CBR when i still lived in Switzerland. Never had any problems with them heating up. They gripped very well even on cold, damp roads.

Not an issue here in Oz. I take it easy through the first few corners, then go for it.

As i wrote already i have found that there's a lot more to tyres than grip. Maybe the Roadtecs will improve feel and absorb bumps as well as the Sportecs? Even if it weren't for the much higher amount of grip the Sportecs offer they'd **** all over the BT020s... IMO.

It's hard for me to see how you could do track days with tyres like Z6s or BT020s. After a few laps tyres like BT010s (in 2001) and Sportecs start to get (too) hot, and they're sposed to run at higher temps...

The Sportevcs certainly aren't bad in the wet, they're just not quite as good as the Roadtecs... In my experience the Roadtecs grip as well in near freezing wet conditions as the Sportecs did in warm wet conditions, and are better in the warm and wet, especially when leaned over. I never got to run the Sportecs in winter though, just late spring.

IMO the big drawback of the Roadtec is feedback, I get far less than I did with the Sportec- but then, I often found the sportec overwhelmed me with irrelevant feedback when pushed, as it went over tiny bumps or stones etc... It's obviously esigned that way but for me that's not what I need when I'm pushing. While the Roadtec takes that sort of thing in its stride, it's just a little lacking in straight-line feedback and warning (that's why I'd say keep it off the track if you plan to really push). I prefer the balance that the roadtec strikes.

And of course, there's the 3:1 rear wear ratio To be honest, the Roadtec will keep even a fast road rider the right way up unless they're doing something inherently stupid, and without scaring them to death, so sacrificing lifespan for further grip that I won't use just doesn't seem like a good idea.

To each their own i guess. Even with the Sportecs i'd like much more feedback, can't have enough. I know that other people can get a bit unnerved with too much of it.
I seem to do stupid things every now and then, so needing new tyres more often will still be cheaper than having to repair the bike. And i'm more comfortable with the extra grip that's in reserve.

Mr Chewie, you went nuts on your SV there! I quite like it , i'm just not into all the 'personalising' like most people are

I think you would be surprised by the number of peopl ewho keep their bikes standard. I can't understand it as the first thing I wanted to do was remove the Snow plough off the back and get a different exhaust. But as you say horses for courses.

It's not so much too much feedback, just things that you have no use for at all, like "just went over a tiny crack in the road." The only time I did ever manage to completely overwhelm the Roadtecs on the street, they let me know all about it

I don't want a tyre with less feedback than the Sportec; I want a tyre that's more selective, if that makes any sense. There's a level of events which are just IMO of no relevance whatsoever to the rider, small stones, micro-slides in corners, that I'm glad to be without so that the important information's not swamped. Think of it as signal/noise ratios...
