when I drove a chemical tanker, we use to load Liquid Paraffin

Is there any other sort?

How do you loosen the chain and soak it in Kerosene (Paraffin) without removing the chain

Ive used parrafin, bloody good stuff, i used a paint brush to get it into all the nooks and crannies leae it on for about 20 mins wipe dry any excess and the (do not use OIL) use a wax or other chain lube. Oil does not stay on the chain, and eventually the chain becomes loose and rusty and basically screwed up. Fit a scottoiler im gonna on my next bike.

Saw a recommendation of using gear oil (heavy) and then applying a layer of wax spray over the top to seal the oil in (allow to dry). I've done this myself and seems to work ok.

you dont soak it in paraffin. you soak a rag in it then wipe the chain with it. a paint brush is also good for those awarkward places.

Kerosene is ok as it has some lubricating properties aswell as cleaning.

I need to take my wheel off so I'll be soaking the chain then, I don't always do it, it just one of those extra jobs to do when you get a chance. Normally I just brush it down.

yeah, all of the above,
dont use wax if you ride in the rain,

just be sure to warm your chain up a bit (by taking it for a quick spin) before putting the engine oil on if thats what your using.

i use ES90, its a bit thicker at engine oil and is designed to be used a bit harder (apparently)

go into any mechanics and ask em what they recommend to use on chain.

they will say "use this chain lube, only 25 pound per bottle"

then ask "what do you use on chains"

they will then say "ES90 or old engine oil, costs about 1.50 per bottle or free"
