When I fitted my Scorpion and tried it with the baffle in I wasn't that impressed. I didn't really hear that much of a difference to the standard (at least nothing worth talking about).
Took it round to the petrol station for a quick run, came back to the house and removed the baffle. That was more like it. Definetly much much better. I really can't see me refitting it unless I have to. |

You can justify it as a safety feature. Think about it: your not going to get some numpty pedestrian stepping out on you in the high street if you can be heard for miles around are you? It also has the same affect when filtering through traffic - that and putting your headlight on full beam - works for me anyway.

Cleaned the bike today. Thought I'd take the baffle out of my Scorpion Titanium, just to satisfy curiosity. OMG! Why didn't I do this earler?! My Suzi is so much sweeter without that sooty thing up 'er ****!
I'm surprised at how not-so-loud it is. I was expecting armageddon. With the baffle in the Scorpion is louder than average I thought, and with baffle out it is only a bit louder me thinks. Well, below 4000rpm anyway. The big difference is the deep, hellish gutteral roar that accompanies any eager throttle action. I went out for a blast. Farm animals ran for cover and village church bells were left reverberating in my wake. OOOHHH YAHHHH!! Such a hooligan. Doesn't it have a big effect on performance too? Power delivery noticably smoother, with down-shift throttle-blips meeting the clutch just sweet everytime. And the feel and sound of the overrun when coming down the box... Yummy! I'm even wondering if the previous owner had the carbs setup properly for the induction. I hate to be a yob, but my baffle is staying out! Now I can have 'roar-offs' with another SV (pointy, blue) that I occasionally see 'round Cowick St in Exeter with a lush Micron can that sounds like a GP speedboat cooming down the road! Who is that? |
