May well be a difference depending on whether they had definite evidence (video footage, etc.) of what speed you were doing. Even if you were doing 100 in a 30, with no hard evidence most police officers would just have bollock you or go the NIP route... Would be harder to get it through a court if it's just their say-so (still very possible, but a lot of hassle for small chance of success)

10% + 2mph is what most of them use, so anything over 35 in a 30 and you stand a chance of getting pulled, 79 on the motorway, although I have heard that there's an unofficial 85mph limit that they use before pulling you over.

If you're worried about getting pulled speeding then there's a few things you can do to lessen the chances - apart from the bleeding obvious (don't speed). Behave yourself in 30s and 40s (most accidents happen here), likewise 120 on the motorway will get you noticed very quickly. Have fun in the 50s and 60s but avoid busy times - mainly Saturday afternoons and Sundays. Try some of the less notorious routes around where you live - it'll improve your riding and make it more interesting anyway.

I heard the speed cameras are set to 5mph above. Guess what I got 3 points and a £60 fine for?

Correct.........36 in a 30 limit.

My own stupid fault - went to the Indian for some grub when away on business. Saw the speed camera on the way there, so busy gabbing on the way back drove straight through and got flashed.

$hit myself when doing 70+ in a 40 recently (no houses, wide, open road) when I saw blue lights and sirens in my mirrors, slowed, pulled over and the police car flew past (phew). Caught them up a few miles down the road "talking" to some local smack head outside the co-op
