Well technically any headlight, indicator or rear light clusters without the appropriate markings on them are illegal as far as I am aware.

Hi guys, thought I'd drop in a small anecdote about indicators and the like that happened today.
On my way from Southampton to Plymouth tonight, razzing along the A303.
Unbeknownst to me, this is also the way to Glastonbury.

Half way along, I see a 'police slow' sign, then another and another, so I do slow. Thank god, cos coming over the hill I'm confronted with FIVE traffic cops in BMW's and a load of normal coppers in a layby

Long story short, a*shole resembles eye of the needle, copper asks if I'm going to Glastonbury, I say no, he says okay then no drug search. Then he says that the traffic coppers up the road wanted him to ping me for my numberplate. He said that that would be 30 squid

, he then says that the indicators are illegal and that that would be another 30 squid

. Bottom falls out of my world as he says 6 points

. He then talks to me about my visor to which I mention that I have a clear one in my back pack. that's okay apparantly.
Then he says, I don't like the traffic coppers up the road and if you clear off double time, there'll be no fine, points or anything.

I took the most sensible option and cleared off. double quick.
A*shole has just resumed normal size.

Don't know if this helps, but I'll be putting a big numberplate on my bike sharpish. I can't afford to get pinged.
If you can afford it, go for it, they look the b*llocks. If you can't the fear of getting caught isn't worth it!!!

Legal? - maybe not

This line is taken from the MOT manual for bikes http://www.ukmot.com/bike/1-5.asp

as long as the indicator light unit or whatever is E marked which alot of small indicators are now they are totally legal! The tail light with indicators in is not legal though on its own.

As for having a small number plate on I am almost 100% certain that it's not an endorsable offence YET

although a £30 fine and vehicle rectification form will be dished out. I have been caught for this..
