AFAIK -- Big disks, turn slower at the point where the calipers meet the disk so work better than smaller disks that are turning faster as the force applied will be on slower turning mass.

I stand corrected.

Still, a bit stupid of them to produce two apparently very similar bikes.

PS. I recently bought a Fab Sixties CD set and this led me to realise
the origins of the SVeeedy Gonzales screen name.

Yeah it does seem odd... they'll be similar bikes just different images and prices. I see ti as a natural move upwards for an ER5 owner, but when you can have tried and tested for £2800 and new, shiny, nice but gremlins (and will it really be that much better?) for around £4000 or more, I can't see them buying it... most ER5 owners on the other forum I use go for big mileage and a trusty, basic bike - general view is that it's not quite the sort of thing they'd go onto as a next bike. Kwak 600 zzr's are the most popular I think...

????
bigger disk, greater linear velocity of the braking surface.

Yes bigger discs, but when I see discs that big on other bikes, the pots are bigger as well... the ER6 pots seem out of proportion to the disc size... it'll stop faster but it won't be sportsbike performance (though it won't need to be) The SV braking is fine for what it is and has smaller discs (not sure if the pots are bigger on the SV though??)... the wavey disc thing also seems to be more of a statement than really adding performance... why does a 600cc parallel twin need perfomrance brakes? I 'd say they would need about the same as the SV.

Hmm - would it be cheaper for kawasaki to use larger discs and small pots (as in, would you get a cheaper unit cost than using a smaller disc with bigger pots?) I'm wondering if they just looked at the cost and bigger discs worked out a cheaper (and more impressive looking) way of doing the brakes??

from something i read the disks are the same that are used on some of their big bikes, which probably meens it is cheeper for them to use them instead of getting diffrent ones made as it is a quantity issue.

z750 selling well? i dont think so, cos in 2 yrs of commuting in london, i aint ever seen one! All the bike mags keep having little sections on them where they praise them without an actual test, and i am sure this is pr to try and get them out the door...

I see George White all also doing Z1000's (K4) for £5499... impressive seeing as that's meant to be a much better overall bike than the Z750, not just more power. I'd still be more keen to get an SV1000 instead though... cheaper and more brutal
