they are all in the main fuse holder.. do you have a alarm? the imobilser might have tripped thinking the flat battery was someone trying to tamper with the bike?

cheers everyone for the replies, I shall try to take the spark plugs out tommorrow. Is this easy for a novice?

Rear one is very easy- lift the tank, there it is. The front is a bit fiddly, but it's awkward fiddly not dificult fiddly, due to restricted access. Does it ever cough like it's about to start? And does it sound "right"?

yes it coughs i would say, it turns over, sounds healthy, and from the sound i expect it to start, but it never catches..

Flooded spark plus or maybe .... long shot

you might have burn't out the ignition coil, when the ignition is left on for a long, long time the coil heats up, and in some cases over heat and burn out. take out a plug and eart it out away from the top of the head to see if you have a sprark, if not then I think that's the place to start looking..
