i have an 05 model and have the same problem when trying to shift into 3rd gear..only happens occasionally and ussually in a turn..not a good thing when a cars behind you..lol...the shift lever on these bikes seems to be a little loose to me but i still love mine..ryrides

I've had similar problems, but both solved by adjusting the gear lever down so my toes can get a better purchase on the upshift, and adjusting the freeplay at the clutch lever to no more than 5mm. Anymore than this and the clutch does drag a bit when warm which makes it hard to find neutral.

I have same prob on my k5 650s,
under hard acceleration, it sometimes takes 2 klicks from 2nd to 3rd,
feels like shifter stays up till throttle is backed off,
I've only done 1000 miles from new, so not really explored the prob, especially now roads are slippy
