Biggest suprise to me I can tell you.

But a worthwhile one huh, good for Mrs big ape.

Jaysus!

Service = £80 DIY over egged.
Second hand calipers = £60 a pair (or £25 for seal kit and fluid)
Chain and sprockets = £100

You could have done that for less than half price mate.

Tyres. I knew before I started riding that bike tyres cost more and need replacing sooner than cars, but it didn't really sink in until I was paying for them quite how often/much it is. Whereas on a car I don't notice it, on a bike it's almost as much as servicing it.

Service = £80 DIY over egged - i can do mine for £40

Second hand calipers = £60 a pair (or £25 for seal kit and fluid) - cost of parts

Chain and sprockets = £100 - thats what it cost this time but i could get it down to about £80

I know I could off, but

I dont have any decent tools, I dont have the mechanical knowledge to be able to do the work myself, and then to trust that I havent messed it up. To be honest I dont the time to do it either... the labour was most of that and thats what I dont have time to do. and I've had my share of fiddling about with cars over the years and the prospect of doing it just puts me right off and I'm happy to pay for it to get done by somebody who knows what they are doing

It's all about confidence Fizz. The SV really is a piece of **** to service yourself. It's a bit fiddly at times but you can do virtually anything with a socket set, allen keys, screwdrivers and torque wrench. You could probably get all that for £50 to £60.

Have a go mate. You'll get a nice sense of achievement once you do.

I know, but confidence is what I am lacking when it comes to mechnical stuff

I used to change the oil and brake pads and plugs in my Mini and my Nova, but that was when I was student and was totally skint now I have a bit more earning power I am quite happy to let somebody else do it.

I did the undertray and mini indcators on my SV and fitted the can, but TBH doing that put my off mucking about anymore with it
