Do nothing, battle that commercialism... If you love someone you can do something on any day, Why be dictated to by the greeting card companies

There's a nice Chinese Restaurant in Cardiff Bay "The Pearl of the Orient",

I've had a few meals there, very nice.

An admirable sentiment, Sir. And one that I most certainly agree with. But just try explaining this to one of the female persuasion who expects a card, chocolates and a nice meal on valentines day and will refuse to speak to you for a month if she doesn't get them.

La Marina over Penarth Marina (v. near Cardiff, on the waterfront) is excellent. Not too pricey for what it is and stunning location. It'll be booked up by now though, I'd imagine.

I bloody hate Valentines day. The inevitable "Don't make a big deal out of it/buy me anything big", then tears and icey silences when you heed their request. Not to mention the financial sting of menu price hikes and wasted time in understaffed restaurants that are so packed you can get up from the table without bumping chairs with the person behind you.

My least favourite "holiday"/celebration of the year. Unlike bank holidays that are days off for nothing in particular, holidays like Christmas and Valentines day where family/partners have high expectations have been shown to raise stress and there's a marked upward spike in crimes and accidents.

2 years ago I took my girlfriend of the time away for the weekend... 3 nights in a 5-star hotel (suite, not room), flowers, candlelit meal, the full works... And she went mental at me because I left her card at home. That's the spirit of valentine's day

(it was a big card, I had to pack it last or it'd get squashed)

You forgot to mention that if you ever do anything less than that trip again, for the rest of your life, you'll get the "you don't love me anymore you used to..." speech.

Last year, I worked OT a couple of evenings and through lunch hour so I could take a whole afternoon off to shop for a present for her (no time otherwise due to extremely hectic schedule and no leave to spare to just take the time off normally). I then got her a pair of earrings that looked smashing, were in her colour and got a nice tasteful box for them to go in, wrapped it up etc. I then rode 100 miles cross country to see her for one evening, getting up in the morning at 5.30 to ride back.

The response; "Were they last minute then? They're a bit big for my ears, I'll have them made into a necklace instead". Really makes you think, "Why bother?"...

You blokes have obviously got the wrong birds!!

My man pointed out to me that I was leaving him on his own this year, as I've booked to take my daughter to London over night, well it is half term.

Pah, he doesn't need one particular day of the year to tell me he loves me, or me him.
Any any girl that does expect it - Shame On Her.
