Wandered what you think of the Arai ? compared to my Shoei XR900
I've got an Arai Astro J, which is a bit broken so I got a Shoei XR1000.

The Arai is more comfortable, but the Shoei has better vents, the visor and mechanism feel more solid and the pinlock system is excellent. Over all I think the Shoei is better, but I do miss the comfort of the Arai.
same here. however the arai now has pinlock. I think i have an arai head

There is also he possibility that before a show a manufacturer may offer SOR stock, or stock at discounted rates. So the stands are happy to make £15 a lid, as they didn't have to take the stock to the show (but mayl have to take it back) and they were going anyway.

When I used to work in the Ham Radio business we used to secure all stock of one or two models just before a show and sell it at a "controlled" price. If it didn't sell we'd still have the UK stock for a month or so. I bet some of the deals were only available on certain paint designs (they didn't bring the ones not on offer).

BTW, I have an Astro-R (Renyolds Rep) and it's a great lid....

I have an XR1000 which is a nice quiet, comfortable lid. However, i brought the wrong size, so no its bedded in, its a bit loose but still ok. However, the Arai, fits better, but is noiser...sorry, this is my Quantum F which the Astro is replacing. Its my fav lid. I am hoping that after having my head measured i have brought the right size, and this lid becomes as comfortable as my old 'f'
My new one is the same old Plain Grey as my old one. I dont see the point of paying the extra for a race rep lid, although i like them. Shark had some interesting designs at the show

ok heres an interesting take on all this

The Astro R came out in about March 2004 for £450

by the May of that year, I picked one up from the HJB stand at the BMF for £300. £100 quid cheaper then I have seen it for sale anywhere since. And that wasnt specific to one colour or size, all UK models.

And NEC this year, picked up a Schuberth S1 (again £400- 500) for £250, from the Infinity stand. Havent seen these cheaper before or since.

So either we live in a land of overly generous retailers

or margin is so damn high.......

As for the Arai, damn fine lid but noisy compared to my new one, (now I have problems hearing the revs its that quiet)

Stock and slow sales, Mr Halonic. if you're a shop, people expect to try on the lid before they buy, so you need to carry fairly large stocks. But you don't sell a huge amount of lids- especially with the more expensive ones- and they're spread across the whole range you carry, and the various . So you need to be sure that the ones you do sell make you enough to justify carrying the whole lot- especially with a product like helmets which get revised or updated all the time. When you buy a lid, you're not just paying for the one you buy- you're also paying for a part of the one that nobody bought.

Old stock costs money..... Sell it for what you can get and take a hit on it. £350 now is better than £400 that may never arrive (and the list was £399 IRRC).
