That's my opinion too.

First 2 times tried to ride off with the chain on the back wheel, someone spotted it seconds before I pulled off. The next 2 times, I got the chain stuck under my hugger. No damage, thankfully.

I've now gotten into the habit of "paddling" the bike a few feet before riding off, much easier than remember to check for the chain (which only really gets used at work).

Brilliant idea - partly as it stops you riding away, but also that a thief will probably have to wreck the thing and then ride it away without the left hand footpeg (not easy) if they don't have a van ready.

Mate had his SV1000 nicked last weekend like this - they broke the steering lock, cut the alarm wires and hotwired it and got it a few miles away, then left it there for a van to collect. Luckily his dad went out early the next morning looking for it and found it, plus one bloke nearby who promptly walked off making a mobile call.

More thieves would skip it if it looked harder to nick, not all of them, but more of them. Plus you'll never forget to take your lock with you, need to carry it in your bag, etc.

Also not cheap. And pray you never step in any dog poo, or you won't want to use it... but it seems to fit most bikes, including the SV.
