I bought new and would do the same again. I like knowing that the bike has been looked after from day one and run in properly. If u drop it so what....thats what insurance is there for (am an old geezer so my quotes are pretty low anyhow but not the case if you are a young un). I also like having the full warranty come with the bike and to me depreciation is just something i am happy to put up with.
However both my cars were only a few months old when i got em as the deprciation is much more on a car because obviously the cars cost a lot more

If I could afford to, I'd buy new every time.

Well said that man! almost any motor vehicle is a poor investment - it's about enjoyment.. there is nothing quite like watching the salesperson roll your new bike out of the showroom for you

Here, here.
My K5 is now 7 1/2 months old and has over 9000 miles on it, it's been worth every penny of that depreciation.

I got my K5 on 1st July last year, i paid £4100 with hugger, lowers & a yoke protector, ok i know i lose money but couldn't give a shoot, it was mine from new & i know that it hasn't had the nuts screamed of it or been thrown up the road.
At the end of the day the choice is your's & your's alone matey but you cant take your money with ya.

I brought my bike new. I dont look at the depreciation. I brought mine mainly to commute. So it cost in reality about £400 less a year than the equivilent train ticket. At the end of the day, and after 5 years riding, it owes me nothing.

If you buy a new SV at £4K and you sell it 2 years down the road for £2.5K then in reality, it has lost less than most run of the mill cars.

Also, what Jelster said.

OOOO, and good luck with the DAS

Buy a year old low miles bike. WIth the money you save it would pay for 10 years of servicing. Well, quite a few anyway...

I would much prefer to buy new, but occasionally you find there are very good deals on second hand that should not be dismissed lightly.

Occasionally you find a bike that once belonged to the bloke who has more money that sense. He has to have everything, the bike is splendid, and has all the mods: alarm, hugger, fenda extenda, double bubble screen, crash bungs, lowers. Only thing he couldn't buy was the bravery to ride it.

I was looking at new but I bought my K3 when it was a year old, only had 350 miles on it and had an alarm. Saved my loads and the dealer put new tyres on.

Look around be prepared to travel to get it - they are out there.

I will have a look about for nearly new models, but i am keen on buying from a dealer rather than private... and i'd rather pay £4k for a new bike than £3.2k for a 2nd hand one.

I might just be gettting over excited and heading fro a fall, please tell me if i sound stupid!
What ever you do mate, don't buy from ArtDeans, george white will do you a good deal on new and second hand
