I'm travelling from Dublin so a little bit further than Manchester, althoug I do have family in Leeds so get to stop there for a cuppa

Dave who came last year (and has put his name down for this year too) is coming from Stockton near Middlesborough so quite a trek for him too.
Yeah the English Leg is boring but it's only a few hours, and I still have vivid memories of pulling into a petrol station on the A1 shivering as I tried to petrol in my bike, soaking wet without any waterproofs.
Dangle, Friday just after lunch is reasonably quiet. The cars will be much faster then you, even if you are Rossi, beause they can corner quicker, means you have to keep an eye out and move over if needed. Doesn't really slow you down that much. Also it's only open on an evening during the week I believe?
Last year there was just 3 of us, but I've organised ride outs with 15 or so people and you're right about those left behind. Normally find that splitting into two groups is best and reminding everyone it's meant to be enjoyable not a race helps.
Whenever you go and whover with you'll love it anyway.
