Very very scary. For some reason bike brakes have problems with corrosion causing binding. Had that trouble with every bike but NONE of my cars despite have double the number of brakes to go wrong!!!

Was it not binding or hard to push before hand? If not that is well scary.

EDIT: I guess they werent binding when u got the bike out. You rode off, hit the brakes the first time and they didnt return properly and started binding. On a VTwin you wouldnt notice so much with the engine braking... Guess you would only know if u rode it on the clutch for 50 metres to test it out. This will worry me now.

eeek, well at least you got it out the way....

Never do anything likely when it comes to the brakes, just about the most important bit on the bike to keep running properly

My, that's awful. A fractured shouler at 60mph - wow you were lucky to escape so lightly.

Don't let the nay-sayers put you off, fella. I'm sure you'll have plenty of opposition to getting back on. From personal experience of a mashed pelvis a few years back - make it plain from day 1 that you are going to hop back on at the first opportunity. I did. It'll cause huge upset and rows but don't let anyone talk you out of it. They can get used to it. You know it wasn't your fault.

You are ok and thats the main thing. *hit happens and do not let it put you off. Nothing like a bunch of peeps telling you "i told you biking was dangerous" is there

The brakes were rubbing in all honesty when i took the bike out, it just normally clears up as i ride along (after a couple of good stops). It was probably naivety and foolishness, i just didnt consider what could actually happen and have never entered an A road so quickly after setting off.

It was at the back of my mind to service the calipers, i just didnt get round to it.

Just seen your for sale post, Don't let it beat you that easily... You've only just passed your test, would be a huge waste

Experiance is gained from mistakes. Things go wrong if you're not careful, but you can be sure that this is something your will never take for granted again. I think it'd be a crying shame to give up biking based on 1 incident.

I have to be honest, I have always been careful of my brakes but did not fully realise that this was one of the outcomes of binding brakes, I would have imagined they'd have faded first but hey

Don't be put off by others I'd imagine it's something you'd be likley to regret in future.
