It looks like you have the same Givi rack as us, so any Givi monokey box will fit..............except for those designed for scooters. As you can see from the pic, we have a 48l box, big enough to fit two Shoei crash helmets in.

The 52l ones tend to be more stylish...............if you're bothered about that kind of thing

Obviously you can't carry everything in the top box, you need to spread the weight around the bike a bit. We also use throw-over soft luggage and a tank bag, but then that is for two of us.

It also a much better place for the top box because it keep the weigth more central

If it's a Givi ract that you have fitted to the bike then you can fit ANY Givi top box to it.

Monorack or Monokey, it doesn't matter they will both fit.

The way the rack fits to the bike is the individual 'tailored' part, how the box fits to the rack is the same for all Givi products - topbox and panniers - they all use the same three point locking mechanism. It's one of Givi's selling points that your luggage is for life as you only need to change the rack if you change model of bike.

The only real different between Monokey and Monolock is one is only really recommended for scooters or smaller bikes. They are slightly lighter weight and whilst some maybe the same capacity in litres, they don't match up in weight bearing.

So, there you go. Any Givi Box will do if you have a Givi rack.

Default Ta...

Thanks all,

Thanks to an earlier post, I'm thinking on going down the cheap HG waterproof stuff bag held on with a bungee cargo, supplemented by soft tail pack, and a small tank bag (for wallet, sunglasses, phone .....and........

..the 2 way radio I'll be able to buy with the cash saved not buying a rigid box!...

Well, that's the plan, THIS week anyway.....

Cheers,

C.

I have a Givi topcase on my SV, and with the original rack it was just horrible. The original rack is very wobbly, and I won't recommend carrying more than 5-10kg. Even with little weight the tall rack and box will upset the handling. I used the box on one trip, the next two years I just strapped a bag to the back seat.

Since then I've modified the Givi rack, moving it down and forward quite a bit. It's also a lot more rigid. With the box mounted the handling is still affected, but not much. I can also carry a lot more weight than before. If you're interested I can post some pictures later today.

Edit: Here's a picture of my modified Givi rack. The mounting plate in this picture is from Kappa, it's almost identical to the Givi one.

Default update: what I went for

As an update to this post. I've gone for:

- Oxford Sprint tank bag in m&p sale (unobstrusive and small but big enough for wallet, keys, phone and my shiney new Cobra MT725 radios )
- Oxford lifetime sports tailpack in m&p sale
- and just bought the recommended £5 HG waterproof bag to use with a cargo net I already have to bungee to Givi rack.

Thats my luggage sorted. Total cost £75 inc postage (not including radios). I'll let you know how I get on. I'm off to Bilbao for a play in the Pyrennesse in June. Will be my first Euro bike trip. Am I looking forward to it? Does a bear sh.....

Thanks for all the tips,

C.
