but on a high note divorce should be final in about 6 weeks woohoo
It could so easily be the other way round next year.....

Hi Kwak,

I'm in a similar situation as yourself. Filled in the forms as requested, the other month received a letter stating I owe them £450. This letter was followed by another claiming £267.
Apparantly they overpaid us £450 during the 2004 period and then overpaid us £267 again in 2005. Pretty shambolic if you ask me, surely if you've highlighted a family / person as being overpaid, there should be measures in place to not over pay them the following year.
I've asked them for a breakdown as to how they calculate these amounts. Been waiting now for some 3 months, despite regular phone calls.

One thing I know, they can have it back in dribs and drabs.

Cheers

It's like insurance quotes; they just make it up as they go along.

Tax Credits? What the **** does Tax Credits mean?

I'm one of the folks who just pay out, I have a few shares which when a dividend is paid, I get a "Tax Credit" note, which is a document which says how much tax I'm credited within having paid before I get the net dividend after tax.

That's what Tax Credit is. It's what I pay to the Government.

Who in hell decided that a "benefit" should be called a Tax Credit, like it's some sort of aknowledgement of generosity or financial obligation.

If it's a benefit, just call it a benefit for ***'s sake.

PS sorry , don't mean to offend anyone in a situation where you need benefit, but I just can't stand the poncy political correctness.

.....and as for the Government and the Benefit system and the CSA fiasco, couldn't organise a p***-up in a brewery, bunch of total losers. Incompetence top to bottom.

Phew, that's better

Q. Why do people get tax credits

A. Because by taxing people it puts thier income below that required to maintain an acceptable standard of living. so give them some tax back.

To me this is totally wrong. Raise the tax thresholds to what is the acceptable minimum for all. I would suggest the starting point for any taxation should be £15,000 afterall they say students can't afford to repay their loans on a salary less than that. So how can anyone afford to pay tax on less than that.

and get rid of stupid bands. I pay tax at 40% on a portion of my income. Why because I earn more. Why should I pay a greater percentage to the revenue than the next guy. Every time I get an "inflation" rise 40% of that goes yet the next guy only pays 23% of his extra money to the revenue.
