I got a Bush DVR3003 FREE with my mobile phone contract.

It turns itself on and off at night and during films at random, and is a total pile of cack. Now you see why they give them away free. Avoid that one in anycase.

Staggeringly annoying if you are just popping disks in to check contents. Couple that to a hopeless menu system and pants remote control to complete the package.

We now have a Tesco cheapo (Teknika) DVD+R recorder, totally superb in comparison - easier to use, far more features.
i must admit the toshiba one i have does take a while to get going. about 10 seconds from first switch on, but after its on things are as quick as i'd expect them to be.

Somerfield were selling a Daiwoo DVD recorder before Xmas for £79! I wish I'd got one now .

However this coming Xmas will be when the new batch of affordable recorders will be in, but if you're smart go for one of the hybrid DVD/Hard disk recorders, more expensive but several times as good.

Got a Cyberhome from Asda for £69 a fortnight ago. It seems to get mixed reviews, but heigh-ho it comes with a 12 month guarantee

I got a Panasonic E85H (think thats what it is, 85 is in the product code anyway).

80GB Hard drive, time slip and a DVD player as well.
It can copy from HDD to DVD amongst loads of other things.
Record time is 20 - 142 hours depending on the Record quality setting chosen.

Easy to use would never go back to a VCR.

Cost £299 on offer back then
Highly recommend it.
