"Beadle's About" and "You've been framed" do not set out to show people being deliberately injured - this clip did. It was based upon people trying to injure others by slamming them with car doors. Whether the perpetrator got his come-uppance or not is irrelevant.

My remarks about "queer bashing" were to try to contextualise this: being gay was a cause for considerable physical persecution for many years and I find that quite abhorrent. I suppose I thought that you might show a little understanding that filming people setting out to deliberately injure others is not acceptable, but I was obviously quite wrong. My sincerest apologies for upsetting you, and please, do feel free to carry on searching out this stuff and posting it on this site. We'll all benefit from it.

(Presumably, if it's "natural human nature to laugh at someone elses mis fortune and pain", it'll be OK to laugh at clips of gays/cripples/Jews/OAPs/bald people being beaten up? I don't think so.)

I can see your point El, and i could see it in your first posting, but just like you are trying to put my post into some context, i am trying to do the same.

Laughing at some fool who is one minute trying to injure some other person, and they themselves become a victim - IS funny. To laugh at people beating the living daylights out of gays/cripples/Jews/OAPs/bald people is NOT funny. Its the context which is in dispute here. If the person who was beating the gay/cripple/jew/OAP etc suddenly became the victim, then that would be funny.

Just as in the clip shown above.

On a slightly different note. What are your views on clips where its a motorcycle accident and a racer/rider gets injured? What if they get injured as a result of their own stupidity?

That's a fair question...frankly, if someone does something dumb and suffers as a result, then it is hard not to laugh. eg that American skateboarder who fell off within twenty metres of the finishing line, or anything to do with Eddie the Eagle. But I don't laugh at serious injury. Ever.

I believe in a distinction between those who suffer injury as a result of their own actions, ie "voluntarily" suffered, and those who suffer as a result of someone else's actions. And I get very hung up about those who deliberately set out to cause injury for amusement - whether hoist on their own petard or not.
