These ecomagnet people are the same people sell these magic magnet braclets.

And, this is obviously total ********.

So, I would continue to think that the system fundamentally doesnt work.

But, if you ever have an old computer you are throwing away, open it, take out the hard drive, open it, and you will find the mother and father of magnets in there. Not huge, but insanely strong.
Attach it to a pipe, see if anything attaches itself to it. Unless, of course the limescale is meant to just vanish.

IMHO they don't work, i went for the full system softner which we put salt into, it's brilliant, takes a bit of getting used to though when you shower or bath, it feels like your'e still covered in soap.
I made an insulated box for it & fitted it outside. If you do go this route though make sure you get one that regenerates on usage not by time, especially if you've got a water meter.

Or you could move to this part of the world where such problems are unknown.

And we even get to use it in our hoses!

I've got some magnets at work that are so powerful they'll pull your watch off your wrist, from the magnetrons in the radar cabins. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Now that would be fun to see...my watch is plastic

I dont understand how fitting "salt" into a water softener takes out the Calcium and disolved minerals out of Hard Water?

I need a chemist to explain. Does the salt remain in the water, and isnt that going to be worse for you (ie increasing your salt intake, and drying your skin?)

As I keep marine fish, I've got a multicanister filter and RO water filter filtted to some of my water supply, now thats the purest water you can get, its takes out the 40ppm of Nitrates, Phosphates, disolved minerals, copper, lead, and general sh*te you get in London Tap water. Shame I dont drink from it!

The salt you put into the softner doesn't actually go into the water, it releases some substance which is held in a resin inside a cannister which then goes into the water to soften it. (I'll see if i can find the book on it when i get home).

You must always have at least one tap in the house which is mains only fed for drinking purposes & any outside taps must be mains fed.

Water softeners hold a reservoir of resin which is capable of absorbing the hardness. After a relatively short period of use the resin becomes worn out and needs to be regenerated.

This is when you pass a saturated salt solution through the resin. The massive concentration of salt (sodium chloride) is sufficient to displace the 'hardness' which is flushed to waste. More water is then flushed through the resin (to waste) to remove excess salt.

Regeneration is complete and the cycle can start again.

In normal use the hardness that is absorbed now displaces the trace amounts of salt from the resin into your water supply. This will leave higher levels of salt in the softened water and is the reason you should not drink much of it.
