Well, under the back of the tank is the rear coil... Could that clicking be arcing across a bad connection there? Mine were a wee bit corroded when I checked the connections a while back. Maybe a bit of a long shot but it's easy to check.

Yours is doing what mine did when the regulator / recitfier failed. There was enough juice in the battery to sometimes turn it over but not enough to give a good spark for it to fire. Sometimes I could get mine to start by trying to start it with no choke and then giving it some throttle if it started to fire.

I had the buzzing and clicking to. IIRC it sounds like its coming from under the rider seat. Sometimes the speedo and rev counter needles would whizz round the dials as well. I had full set of dash lights and headlights as well.

If you have mains in your garage you might want to think about investing in an optimate if you leave the bike standing for along time the optimate will keep the battery topped up.
