SVS K4
24k miles.

Used all year round for work, though only done about 2000 miles since October.

Got two stamps in the book then worked out how much that was going to cost me over the first two years alone and started doing it myself.

Faults: gear lever came off 200 miles after the last dealer service. Screwed it back on myself and never had another problem with it.
Front pot not firing properly.

SV650 SY

25,000 from new.

I always do oil changes and brakes (stripping at least once a year)

Use it all year round.

Main services done professionally.

Have had to have:

New clutch and springs (down to me frankly )

That's it apart from general wear and tear (after this winter and five years that is quite a lot of TLC)

As I bought my SV from new not long ago I'm getting all my free servicing done at the dealers. Once that's done I will do all the little jobs (oil/filter, plugs, airfilter, chain) myself and let a mechanice but not a dealer do the brakes and shims etc.

When I removed mine you could see the extra holes where they had cocked it up the first time. Its not like you are paying peanuts and expecting monkeys either.

SV wise:

Both curvy 650S and pointy 1000N bought new, back to dealer for the 500 service so I could complain about how they'd been final assembled and PDI'd, from then on I do everything.

650: sold at 25,000ish, duff reg/rec replaced with one that works at approx 8-9000 miles.

1000: Now at 18,000 miles, no technical probs thus far, one engine outer case replaced due to a manufacturing fault, (finish).

If an SV650 has a flat tyre in the forest and no-one is there to blow it up, how long will it be 'til someone posts that the reg/rec is duff and the world will end unless a CBR unit is fitted? A little bit of knowledge = a dangerous thing.
