If you get a pointy (2003-present) restricted then it is done with a new ecu. This limits the speed to 100mph electronically, and changes the top end power.

It's still a great ride, and it doen't really affect the torque so you still get all the benefits of a vtwin.

However, as someone already said, you'll tend to be redlining it a lot of the time, which keeps your fuel economy down to about 40mpg - the same as an unrestricted thou

Is the standard can really that bad? I have a restricted SV (I have a ful licence, bought a restricted bike and haven't got around to getting the restrictor out yet) and have been tempted by a new can.

I completely agree with the running out of puff above 7.5k, though I've seen the speedo read 90 (95 with a tail wind!).
