Sorry, no one can take Freddie's place...

He was the driving force, the main songwriting came from him. Queen wouldn't be the same without the other three (Freddie's solo efforts prove it), but he simply can't be replaced, a bit like Marillion never were the same again without Fish (though Fish's solo career has quite some interesting moments).

Went to see Queen in Hyde Park with Paul Rodgers good in it's own right but it just wasn't Queen without Freddie.

I wouldnt have said that Rainbow remained true to their earlier spirit. The band has two distinct phases - the heavier phase with RJD and the more commercially orientated phase with JLT. End of the day Blackmore was the force behind it but any best of Rainbow album clearly shows anyone listening to it the band distinctly changed the style of music.

Not to say its not good - I like songs by both singers, but Ranbow Rising would be the definitive album for me [my signature gives it away a bit there :P ]

Whereas AC/DC didnt really change the style of music, just the singer.

Awaiting Nightwish's next album - having sacked their singer its going to be different. Tbh, I like it when bands evolve somewhat and change things.

And any award for most changes of line up has to go to Deep Purple. Though again, the favourite line up incorporates Gillan as vocalist.

RJD is better on his own rather than replacing vocalists in other bands.

Iron Maiden

The had some guy at the beginning (dont know his name) then they got in Bruce Dickinson. Listening to the old stuff and then the stuff with bruce, i know bruce is better. Just listen to live recordings of "fear of the dark" and "hallow'd be thy name". Send shivers down your spine! Awsome! Who thought operatic sining and rock would go together huh?

Matt

EDIT : Haggis, you already mentioned it!

sorry mate, dont mean to steal your thunder. Rock In Rio is the best music DVD i own! Matt
