to the last few questions, it vibrates quite a bit on idle and when riding. Especially through the tank. Serviced - well needs it but has only been like spark plugs, oil and filter, tyres, brakes, change regularly but not more than that. I seem to remember my sister synched the carbs about 2 1/2 years ago. The exhaust is quite sooty! but not overly, the airfilter hasnt been touched since then as well.
So, in the greater scheme of things, just give the bike a bloody good service, and c if it rides well, then consider rejet if i really want to. Just thinking if i need to replace airfilter (is it reuseable?) then aint i best getting a BMC and then rejetting after all that, or just putting a new standard one in? Cheers |

Go through everything for a main service, an airfilter that's 2 1/2 years old with any sort of regular use will be pretty gummed up and quite restrictive, which might be why your exhaust is sooty. I'd go for a fresh BMC or other washable filter, and possibly a little dyno time to check if it needs re-jetting?
:edit: Like Viney says, carbs are probably out but not worth checking till there's a clean filter, plugs etc, and after 2 years, have the valve clearances been checked? Carb sync is affected by everything else so get the bike up to scratch then do it.

First thing is to check it's all working right, before jumping into things like jetting etc. A basic reset all to standard is the best first option.
