Streetfighter Issue 106 I think was the one that featured an SV650 (curvy) with a TL 1000 engine

Cars are easier to change engines etc than bikes where the frame is usaly a very tight fit for the engine.

The TL has many diffrences, the RAM air comes between the spars on the side of the bike, fuel tank has diffrent mountings, headstock is far larger. The swingarm by many TL peeps standards is not good enough for the power output of the engine so the stock SV one would be way off.

Would it not just be easier to buy a TLS and change the panels to SV ones or similer.

Good idea though.

No, other than styling they share very little.

You certainly could do this, but it's not like it is with cars, there's no 'space where the engine goes' the chassis and engine are specifically designed and constructed to mate. The 1000 engine mount positions are in different places to those of the 650 motor, and, as you may have noticed, there aren't mounting plates as there used to be with, say, steel tube frames, this means that in the event that you find that the 1000 motor will physically fit in the space vacated by the 650, and importantly, that if it does the chain line is in a suitable place, arranging the mounts will prove a sizable task even to someone like yourself who has the skills to fabricate.

do it, just get knee deep in parts, tools, bolts, grinders and they'll be loads of problems and hassle, then when it's done you'll think "worth it all" and you can smile at the fact you got a bike thats "your own"

I think the frame kit is about £3500.

Just thinking about it... You'd end up with a bike that looks exactly like an SV thou. It'll probably end up less good as well, and there's practically no chance it'd be cheaper- plus of course, the resale value would be pennies.

Engine swaps to create something truly different (the 7/11 or Gixxer Zeds being classics, or a Scoobydoo WRX engine in a VW Beetle) that's one thing, but it just seems like this would be reinventing the wheel.

I'm still thinking old Lester was right... With the work involved, it'd be better to build a whole new frame. I want a Spondon-framed 636, if I had the funds I'd order one today
