could it be oil within the links that flows when really hot then?, and comes out of the chain where it goes round the front sprocket??

its on the left side of the engine (so not the clutch basket then )

not above the plastic cover on front sprocket / behind gear selector so i ruled out airbox breather (but didnt expect much oil in that on a new engine)
When the chain was new and very oiled it sprays up inside the sprocket cover and congeels(sp?) When hot, it melts n drips.

I was thinking that too... Though it'd not leave oil on the outside of the cover.

its not on the outside of the cover, its coming from underneath. and no higher up.

Went for a 10 mile ride after work tonight and no evidence of a drip... will have to jsut tell them to check it at the service.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Just spoke to dealers, apparently engine oil might be red, and the stuff dripping off isn't so its probably the chain.

Hope i've been worrying about nothing then!!
(but its my new bike so i have to worry!)

can anyone confirm?

i can confirm that my engine oil is not red.

i would quite confidently say that no matter what colour the oil is when it goes in, it will always end up black after a few miles.....

then again..... your bike is new, how many miles????
