It does tickle me Boc how the peeps fall in to using my rather yuppyish two first name full name which as you rightly point out is pure fiction.

I think it's a matter of practicality, if the post will be of relevance to others too, then the username may be preferable as others may not know who is being referred to if a Christian name is used.

Username in the forum for sure.

Christian name in PM's if the other person sign's off their PM with their own name.

If the nature of your communication is personal enough to use first names, use PM.

Here Razor, you look 63% more foxy in your new Avitar. However, you trail behind Anna's, due to the lack of 'fro. Only Anna's might not be real. I have a sneaking suspicion.

I'm glad you brought this up as I don't think there are enough people using the correct etiquette when refering to certain members of the forum...........

.......For example.: The Right Honorable, Sir , Lord ( Gay prefix if you wish ) Brigadier, Master, Mesiah etc etc.

However I am going to go down the Prince avenue and be known as or the Forum member formally known as DanDare.

Seriously it doesn't bother me either way as my name is Dan if you hadn't already guessed.

I honestly think it depends upon each individual's viewpoint, as you can see from the posts above. Certainly there are some people (usually girls, who probably value their anonymity more than blokes, which is understandable) who most definitely don't like their first name being used openly on the forum.

I think it's a question of relevance and also familiarity. For axample, in the Regional sections you'll find that first names are used more openly than on other parts of the forum, where they are usually also known on a social basis.

I don't think there is any hard and fast etiquette, just use common sense and be sensitive to the wishes of others (if you're aware of them).

And talking about sensitivity, I think that El Boc was completely out of order - for everyone to now know that Peter Henry's real name is Aloysius is simply cruel .
