I got my knee down for the first time a couple of moths ago, after nine long months of trying after passing my test!
Essentially i found a nice roundabout, that was fairly quiet, fairly smooth and could see traffic approaching, in all dircetions, then just going there every weekend, going in a bit faster each time, leaning the bike a bit more and generally hanging off as much as possible.
So just find a nice spot and keep practising would be my advice.
Now I've just got to find a bend where i can get my left knee down!

Ah well it's NEAR wher I live. The corner in question is in Bracknell near the BMW offices on the Industrial Estate. You get two corners, left and right both long sweeping and after a couple of goes your sliders will be proper ruined!

Skullmonk3y - I saw that DVD when it first came out June 04ish - I went out a few weeks later in a car park and scraped my sliders for the first time - well happy. The was another feature on the same DVD about wheelies which I never conquered

SV_Dan - I've said it before, that's a nice shot mate.

Bend at the knee and lean forward. That's how I get my knees down. I'm great cause I can do either side or even both at the same time at the drop of a hat.

THink I'll try it on a track first, just till I get the hang of it without worrying about diesel, white vans, manhole covers etc....
