As a professional psychologist I would like to add that most mainstream psychology doesn't accept that dreams have a deeper, symbolic, meaning. The branch of psychology that does (Psychoanalysis:founded by Freud around the turn of the last century) is rarely used in a clinical setting.
Mainstream psychology, whether in a clinical or academic setting, considers the subject matter of dreams to be relatively unimportant. However the example of disturbed or disturbing dreams in themsleves can be an indication of daytime stress or worry. Typically the daytime stress or worry 'hooks' itself onto something we have seen or heard recently and twists it into something apparently weird, possibly distressing. My advice is not to look for a deeper meaning of the actual dreams but to have a think about what may be causing anxiety in day to day life, which could lead to disrupted slpeep and dreaming. HTH |

As a professional maker uper of **** I would like to just give my opinion without backing it up in anyway whatsoever.
![]() Nah, while I completely agree that there are no deeper meanings to dreams on the most part, sometimes there might be something to it. Ie, I had recurring dreams about my teeth falling out, and this allegedly relates to self esteme issues / insecurity. Imagine. But em, yeah. I would more look at when you are having the dreams. Are they early in the morning on weekends? You only have dreams for a certain part of the sleep cycle. If you are oversleeping, you will dream disproportionately more. If they are at three am during the week sort of thing, then, like messie was saying, I would be putting my money on stress at work or something. I used to keep a training diary when I was a cyclist. I would note hours slept, stuff done, hard days at work, miles ridden that day, pulse ranges I worked within, how I felt. what I ate etc. Just a few notes. But, after a while you could see patterns that in hindsight are totally obvious, or not so obvious. You can try this sort of approach with sleep. |

Whilst accepting that CBT can be a very effective way of helping all manner of psychological problems I always find it frustrating that the punishment element isn't allowed. My cattle prod (or should that be a tazer these days) hasn't seen any action for a long time. I was so disappointed when a supervisor pointed out that therapy is really designed to help the client not to entertain the therapist
