agree with viney, except for
riding gear, make sure you have decent kit! I don't see the need for braided lines and pads or rear shock keeping the engine smooth with carb balancing, tps adjustment and a remap if you change the can can make it a lot easier to ride tyres are a must even just heavier fork oil will make a massive difference to your stopping confidence the rest is personalisation imho enjoy! |

Personally, I reckon that at this point tart up is the way to go
![]() If I got a new SV tomorrow, leaving aside bits that I'd do just because I have them lying about, I'd do this: 1) Crash bungs, before I even rode it. Motosliders for preference. 2) Slip-on. I'd go with a Remus road legal, but that's personal taste. Scorpion are good quality and cheap, I just don't like the sound. (you could do a full system, but it's a lot more money for very little gain. If it's got to be duals, have a quick check on Ebay just now, I think there's an Ixil or some such up there. Lots of options for duals now, not just Renegade) 3) Tyres- stockers off, Roadtecs on. The stock ones aren't as bad as some would say, but they're still the worst part of the bike IMO. 4) springs and oil in the forks- well, I'd actually do a GSXR swap but springs and oil makes more sense. I'd get the fork sliders powdercoated or sprayed to match the frame as well, I hate the way they don't match up. 5) Some sort of GSXR or Kwak shock- yes, it's a bodge, but it's a bodge that costs 1/10 as much as a Penske or Ohlins rear shock. I've got an Ohlins fitted and it's ace, but I'm not sure i could justify the expense, really. 6) Dress up- bellypan, fender eliminator, single seat cowl, pegs off. 7) Better bulb in the headlight. Dang it, 8 ) appears as ![]()

Ben 650......
Soem nice additions on there alright...cheers for the pic. I've always wondered what that 'scoop' (is that what it's called under the bike there?) would look like on the nekkid version....love the front lights too - was that expensive to do? The grills are nice too. Are they Hamicad too? My radiator is a little bit skewed after bike being dropped so not sure if I'd get a good grill on properly... Not sure I'd go with those mirrors or the red bolts... How did you do the back of the bike? Hamicad? That's a really nice colour too! ![]() |

Tail tidy, new can and K&N or equivalent filter, new fork springs and oil for definate! Braided hoses and uprated pads DO make a world of difference as Ive just put them on my K3 and its miles better. Bin the standard tyres too and get some Z6s or equivalent on.
Paint the little diamond shaped bits under the seat that cover up the seat bolts to match the rest of the bike and give it a nice uninterupted line. Keep standard indies for practicality but put clear lenses on. |

And not to mention that some of the mods make your bike illegal and also can make it harder for car drivers to see what you are doing. (like the indicator thing) |

Come on chaps, tow the line here! The man wishes to mod his bike.
IMO, your weight is the issue you're going to have to address first. Springs to suit your 18st and oil as recommended to suit is a must. You don't mention pillion but account for that too if reqd. Rear shock, depends on how you want to split your budget. Branded is expensive but worth it if you plan on using the bike plenty, although don't discount Hagon who will build one to your spec for a little less than an Ohlins unit. Not sure if there is a cheaper GSXR/ZX/busa option for 18st. I wouldn't go further than this 'til you get used to the bike properly. Get out there!! Then evaluate if you want... More grip - get some decent sports tyres Better stopping power (plausable due to the weight again) - braided lines and pads. Discs on a K5 should still be fine. Sounds and breathing - can/full system with remap and aftermarket filter It's naked so perhaps a screen to hide behind and different bars for comfort. |
