Well it's a fetish I haven't heard of before...

I don't think loud pipes have any kind of safety benefit, I have a magnum siebel horn and that people hear way before the exhaust.

Wow!!! wasn't expecting this level of reply’s!!! but in reply to lots of things people have said, below 4k revs there is no real volume just a lovely deep burble!! but yes above that it picks up, but still nothing like the big Harleys and other big old cursers!! A v-Twin defo does have the best sound of any other engine, and most importantly like has been said if you are considerate then people wont get ****ed off, all my neighbors are completely fine with it, there are kids that live all around me and i have people running out with there children to watch the "Fast red moterbike!! lol" (How cute!!!) lol.
And last and i think no means least, im my opinion no bike it as offencive as the sound of those ****s in there novers and such with there dustbin exhausts!!!! because they sound stupid and look even worse,

I've a scorp on mine, does sound good i have to admit.

but i'm doing a 600 mile + trip at the weekend and i suspect i'll stick the baffles in for it. i seem to ride smoother (figment of my imagination i don't know) and i do sometimes have mates who follow me who get hacked off with the noise and it does get on my thrupenny's on a long ride.

As for neighbours, unless you are a tool/thoughtless and sit with the bike running for 10 mins revving it up before you ride off, or you give it a fistful and ride off at full chat, I can’t see that starting it up and pulling stright away and gently - with the gentle burble at low revs - is more offensive than say a diesel van. It’s all about having a little thought/respect.
They say the little ones have to shout the loudest.

The bloke who lives opposite me offends me every time he goes goes out and comes home on his Aprilia 1000. It's just too loud and if it offends me what do the non motorcycling neighbours think?
